Retaining Walls

Retaining walls in Melbourne

Concrete sleeper, timber and rock walls, with the dig, drainage and backfill included.

01Overview

A retaining wall is only as good as what's behind it and underneath it. Posts set at the right depth, drainage that works and proper backfill are what stop a wall leaning in five years.

We build concrete sleeper, timber and rock retaining walls across Melbourne and the South-East. Because we do the excavation ourselves, you get the full package: dig, posts, wall, drainage and backfill, from one contractor.

  • 01

In Victoria, walls over about 1 metre, or walls near boundaries or buildings, usually need engineering and a building permit. Check with your building surveyor; we work to the engineer's design.

  • 02

Drainage is the difference between a wall that lasts and one that fails. It's always included in our packages.

  • 03

Concrete sleepers are low-maintenance and come in different finishes. Timber costs less upfront. Rock suits natural landscapes.

05FAQ

Common questions.

Concrete sleeper, timber or rock: which should I choose?

It depends on height, budget, look and how long you want it to last. We'll give you a straight answer for your site.

Do I need a permit?

Often, for walls over about 1 metre or near a boundary or building. Your building surveyor will confirm. If engineering is needed, we build to it.

Do you do the excavation too?

Yes. That's the advantage of using an excavation contractor for walls: the dig, wall, drainage and spoil are all handled together.
